How To Become A Successful Musician
Follow This Simple Advice To Instantly Change Your Life

By Andy Shaw

There was a line in the film Pulp Fiction which I felt summed up a stack of professions, especially that of a music artist struggling to become successful… Marsellus Wallace said: "You see, this profession is filled to the brim with unrealistic motherfu*kers."

There are stacks of good and great musicians who basically will never make it…

But some do and apart from a tiny amount who are in the right place at the right time with the right look and the right sound… Virtually all will not, but why not? You see the popular myth of getting a ‘lucky break’ which haunts the music profession is just that… a myth!

And just like the thought of winning the lottery keeps millions of people trapped in the ‘buying a ticket’ loop for their entire lives, then the myth of you have to get lucky kills the dreams of thousands and thousands of aspiring musicians.

Yes one amongst millions will of course win the lottery, and yes I’m sure than one amongst thousands will get a ‘lucky break’, after all we can all think of musicians who frankly shouldn’t be where they are. But you can’t plan for that to certainly happen, so why take the 1 in 1,000 chance of it happening?

When you can actually make success a certainty if you just learn how to create success. And remember that virtually all successful musicians didn’t get there through a ‘lucky’ break…

So how did they do it? Did they have access to a secret formula to create their success? As if there’s a pattern or a formula then you can replicate it!

One of my favourite thoughts is, ‘if someone else has done it then I can do it too and make it better.’

But then I have an advantage over virtually all people as I have the ‘magic’ ingredient which makes success a certainty. I am a successful person, because I have a success mindset. And this mindset means that whatever I choose to focus on I become successful at…

The funny thing is though, that we all have a Natural Success Mindset. It is just that virtually all people have lost theirs. And it is the same success mindset that all successful Musicians, Actors, Writers, Lawyers, and of course Entrepreneurs have…

All Successful Musicians Have A Success Mindset

What happened to everyone else who no longer has this success mindset is that they have allowed unconsciously their life experiences to rob them of their birthright… And this birthright is their single most valuable asset…

You see, if you look at all successful people in all walks of life, you’ll find this one common trait in all of us… We all still have our natural success mindset. And I say natural because it is natural… You had one too when you used it to learn to walk.

Learning to walk is just about the most difficult thing you’ll ever have to accomplish in your entire life! Yet you did it all without effort! You used your success mindset perfectly, you had hundreds and hundreds of set backs… You fell over and hurt yourself countless times… Yet you never gave up or felt sorry for yourself, you just kept going UNTIL you walked, and you were a success at it! You were a natural born success from the word go…

So what’s happened since then?

Between then and now your mindset has changed, thanks to what you’ve allowed to be put into your mind. You’ve poured information into your mind. Some of it is good knowledge and most of it is of no use… However, some of it is very bad and very damaging.

And what’s also happened is as you’ve grown you’ve also allowed an ‘entity’ to take up residence in your mind… This ‘entity’ talks to you as well, and it sounds just like you but it’s not you… It’s your ego and your ego is basically a success killing virus which sits in your mind robbing you of success by giving you really bad advice…

What happens is as you grow older you go into one of two groups of people, the ones who hear this voice and recognise it as rubbish and unhelpful – they are the successful people. Or more likely you join group two who hear this voice and you’ll listen to it and you doubt yourself…

This voice will say things to you like, ‘you won’t actually succeed, you’re not good enough! You’re just faking it! They’ll suss you out soon and then you’ll fail!’

You’ll think that voice is you, because it sounds like you, and because it is probably too far fetched right now to possibly even believe that you have an entity sitting inside your mind…

But sometimes the far fetched is the truth, and your success depends right now in you understanding what’s going on inside your mind so that you can stop it.

Do You Still Have Your Natural Success Mindset?

Successful musicians or those who will become successful do not know how to control this voice as they don’t need to… You see they still have their natural success mindset. But if you doubt yourself in anyway and you do not know for certain that you will become successful then you must learn to control it…

Or quite simply you will not succeed and with every day you age this entity will control your mind more and more… It is a virus in your mind and whatever you try to learn and do will not work, because you are adding good information on top of some very unstable foundations…

First you must clear the rubbish out and then build your success. You see all the time you allow this virus to remain in your mind it continues to spread like a cancer and it robs you of your ability to succeed…

Why do you think it is that some fabulous musicians never get anywhere?

They have a virus in their minds preventing their success… It really is simple when you understand how people create success… And it is universal, so it doesn’t matter what your interest is, it just matters that you create your success in a certain way, and you do so without your ego sabotaging it.

The good news is, you had a success mindset once, so you can get it back… All you have to do is to remove the bad programming you’ve put into your mind over the years… If you do that then you get the mindset back which you had when you learnt to walk…

Now just imagine for a second attempting to become a successful musician with the very same mindset you had when you learnt to walk?

What do you think the chances of you failing to become successful would be then?

How many children failed to learn to walk?

Do you get it, your success works like this… It is a given that you have to be talented… But talent will only get you so far, and for every successful musician there is there are at least 1,000 who were good enough to do it but didn’t make it… So talent is a must have…

But what separates’ the winners from the losers is one little thing which EVERY SINGLE PERSON has control over, and that’s their mindset.

So if you intend to succeed then you are going to need to regain the success mindset you had as a child, and you are going to need to keep that mindset intact whilst you work on becoming a successful musician.

The good news is you are going to need this success mindset too, for WHEN you become successful…

As what waits for you there is something far more challenging than the challenge you face now… And that is dealing with and maintaining that success!

But What About WHEN You Become Successful?

I know what you’re thinking, ‘yeah, yeah I’ll deal with that then.’ But success isn’t just making it there, if you think it is then maybe you should consider Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Pete Doherty, Sid Vicious, and countless more… Or the ones who couldn't sustain their initial success and went off into obscurity with one hit wonders...

You’ve probably spent countless hours practicing, and that is essential for your success… The Beatles practicing for 50 hours plus a week for months in Hamburg is one of the most underestimated reasons for their eventual success… You must be excellent… this is simply a must do!

But your success is not wholly reliant on your professional ability, your success lives or dies by your own minds ability! And now you are talented then you must get back your natural success mindset… Or you will be one of the 1,000’s of musicians who should’ve made it but didn’t!

You cannot succeed without a success mindset. You can either have this by accident as virtually all successful people do! Or you can get it back on purpose… but it is a must have… Success as a Musician cannot happen without it!

This is why people with low talent can succeed, as their success mindset will carry them through regardless of their ability…

Personally I wouldn’t bother trying to succeed in the music business without talent, but plenty of people have, and some of them succeeded… For me I think life’s too short to play a game when the deck is stacked so heavily against you… But if that’s your passion, then who am I to tell you, that you’re wrong!

As with a success mindset then your are certain of success, just as you were certain to walk! But to get a success mindset it does not involve you going out and finding new skills, it is all about you looking at yourself and given that you are trying to convince others of your talent… Then you must learn to look at yourself from their point of view and in doing so you can learn to position yourself perfectly to be their ideal opportunity…

This really isn’t rocket science when you think about it…

This is exactly what all successful people do, they just do it on auto-pilot… They stack the deck in their favour so that chance falls their way.

Here is a very brief process for you to follow to become a successful musician

#1 Define what success is to you… Define it in all of it’s details… Don’t skimp here as this is you creating your success in your mind first. As if it hasn’t happened in your mind then it cannot happen in reality…

Sounds like hocus pocus stuff I know, but hey that’s just how this stuff works… I don’t make the rules, I just play by them to ensure my success!
.
#2 Once you KNOW what your success looks like. Then you must work on conceiving it is possible… Come up with stacks of different ways you could get there.

Say there’s 15 steps, and the 15th is your success step… Then plan out the possible steps to get there. Come up with multiple options for each step… What you are doing is building a bridge for your mind…

You can see your success, it’s real to you… But your subconscious mind can’t get you there without you providing it with possibilities… Do that and your mind can conceive that it IS possible for you to get there…

As you do this it kills off your self doubt, and you regain your success mindset in this one area of your life… Decide for yourself if your success will be easier without doubts or with them!

..
#3 You must then work on the step you are on. Practice more, get more gigs, get a fan base, get better, and spend at least five hours a week working on your mindset…

As remember your mindset is not static, just because you know something today does not mean you will know it tomorrow… By tomorrow your mind may have gone out of tune and your unsuccessful person mindset may have taken over again…

You protect yourself from this by spending time on yourself, working on improving your mindset so that when an opportunity comes along, then you are in the perfect position to capitalise on it… This is stacking the deck in your favour…

..>.
#4 This is the last step, and it’s very simple! Maybe too simple, but without it you will fail…

If you want to succeed, then once you know what you want, once you have given your mind enough options of how to get there, and once you are giving your dominant attention to working on the step of the journey you are on… Then you must keep going UNTIL you succeed…

Told you it was simple… But following that advice will be the difference between your success or your failure! Becoming a successful musician really is a choice!

That’s it, that’s the process for success which ALL successful people follow either consciously or unconsciously…

It is the process you followed when you learnt to walk… And it will be the process you follow for all your successes in life... So you can live on purpose (the conscious choice of successful people), or live by accident (the unconscious choice of un-successful people).

So if you seriously want to become successful then this is the process you must follow now…
